Fred Morr


Frederic Edward, age 89, passed away peacefully at home in Cincinnati, on October 20, 2012. Fred was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 12, 1923 to parents Fred Jacob Morr and Alice Brater Morr.


After serving in the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot instructor, Fred went on to graduate from Ohio Wesleyan and receive his law degree from University of Cincinnati. Fred was a conservationist and a true outdoor sportsman. He loved jazz music, flying small aircraft, and gardening. He served the state of Ohio in many capacities. From 1959 to 1962, Fred was the elected County Auditor of Greene County. From 1963 to 1971, he was Director of Natural Resources under Governor Jim Rhodes. Fred was particularly remembered for the Ohio State Parks he developed during that time. In 1971, President Richard Nixon appointed Fred as Chairman of the Ohio River Basin Commission, a position he held until 1977. From 1979 until 1985, Fred was president of Molitor Building & Loan, a lending institution started by his father in Delhi Township. He was Appraiser for Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis from 1986 to 2009.


Fred was raised in Delhi Township. He also lived in Cincinnati, Grape Grove, Xenia, and Worthington while raising his own family of three children with his former wife of 28 years, Mary Christine Morr, who is now deceased. Fred retired in the Florida cities of Hudson and Cape Coral. Fred is survived by two daughters, Susan Portis and Nancy Carnahan, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, three nieces, four nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, John, brother, Richard, sister, Lois, and two former wives, Helen and Carole.


A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at Free Methodist Church, 700 East Epworth Avenue, in Winton Place, Cincinnati, Ohio.
