Melvin E. beloved husband of the late Lucille (Nee: Laliberte) Root. Loving father of Linda Gilkey-Goebel. Devoted grandfather of Mary (Dan) Andrew, Michelle (Tim) Rayburn, Jeff (Kathy) Gilkey, Brian (Wendy) Gilkey, Greg (Lynn) Gilkey, Jerry (Angi) Goebel and the late Eric Goebel. Cherished great-grandfather of 16. Dear brother of Betty Jane Meredith and Patsy Johnson, preceded in death by 3 brother and sisters. Also survived by numerous other family and friends. October 2, 2014. Age 93 years. Visitation will be Monday Oct. 6th from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the Radel Funeral Home, 4122 Glenway Ave., 921-4512. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday Oct. 6th 1:15 P.M. at St. William Church, 4108 W. 8th Street, 45205. If so desired memorials may be made to the American Heart Assn., 15120 Collections Center Dr., Chicago, IL 60693.

Dear "Cuz", Linda. and family - I am heartbroken for you in your loss of an amazing father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and my Uncle.. He was always so loving and kind to all of us and truly an amazing person and friend to all! Always there when we needed him! God truly has taken another angel into his fold, and I know he will be looking over all of us and embracing us with his love. What a hole he leaves here on earth! My love and condolences to all of you. Nancy
