Rev. Harry J. loving brother of Corwin "Windy" (the late Mary Fran) Gerdes, Martha (the late Gordon) Thompson and the late Rosemary and Bob Kessen. Beloved son of the late Della and Harry Gerdes. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. February 26, 2015. Age 79 years. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 3rd from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Radel Funeral Home, 650 Neeb Road, 513-451-8800. Visitation will also be held Wednesday, March 4th from 9:00 A.M. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 Noon at St. Joseph Church North Bend, 25 East Harrison, North Bend, Ohio. www.radelfuneral.com

Father Harry was at Saint Joseph when I was growing up as a kid. I remember going to mass and enjoying it because we had a great sports report before mass, we got an awesome sermon, and a father that loved sports at Taylor. Father Harry was a great priest and a wonderful friend. He attended the January 10, 1982 Bengals playoff game with me wearing only street shoes and his regular black pants. The wind chill was -59 degrees. I wanted him to get out of the weather but he did not want to leave. Finally we got him wrapped in a plastic garbage bag packed with newspapers and he lasted the game without frost bite. As a priest he proved that there were many ways to minister and reach peoples hearts and spirits. I am sure he will be the Chaplin for Heavenly Saints Baseball Club. You will always be our priest Father Harry.

Father Harry was at Saint Joseph when we moved back to the west side. He will always be remembered for his love of sports and his colorful vestments. What a wonderful gift he was to us. God bless you, Father Harry.

Fr. Gerdes was one of the best priest we had a St. Lawrence!! He touched a lot of lives and will be missed.

Windy, My sympathy to you and the rest of the family on the departure of Harry to Heaven I remember our last meeting at Frisch's when I talked with the two of you. Harry was a great man and priest..

We are so sorry for the loss of Father Harry. We loved him very much. He married my husband and me 35 years ago and baptized both of our children. The Babel family will truly miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
