Mercer
Matthew David, 37, born on August 19, 1978 in Cincinnati, Ohio, hung up his torch and rode off into the sunset on Saturday, June 4th 2016. He is survived by his soulmate, best friend and the love of his life Allison (Marchioni) Mercer. He was the son (baby boy) of Verna (Nee; Lantry) and Donald Mercer.
As a journeyman ironworker and member of the Iron Workers Local Union 44, Matthew touched many of the skyscrapers, buildings and bridges in the Cincinnati Area. Matthew could weld or fabricate anything he could get his hands on and was truly an artist with a torch. He loved his fellow Iron Workers it was a brotherhood. Matthew, also known as Whiskey, loved hard, worked hard and played hard. He loved his jeep and his Harley and enjoyed riding with his wife. He was part of a 12 step fellowship in the Cincinnati area that loved him unconditionally. He had a smile and laugh that could light up a room and a holler you could hear from the next county.
Matthew is survived by five siblings James Mercer, Caroline (Terry) Laughlin, Vivian (Scott) Ellis, Stephen (Sherri) Mercer and Elizabeth (Allen) Gilreath. Matthew became part of the Marchioni family in 2012 and leaves behind Michael and Nancy Marchioni, Brandon (Amber) Marchioni and Ben (Ranita) Marchioni. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

My deepest sympathy to your family and friends! I did not know Matt and you don't know me, but I know some friends of his, and my brother probably knew Matt. I lost my older brother, Brian, to the disease of addiction in August 2015. He was 38. Losing him is the worst and hardest thing that's ever happened to me! I don't know exactly how you feel, because everyone's relationship, situation, and circumstances are different, but I know that regardless of that - this is going to be a very difficult time for you and I'm very sorry for your loss! It's a really slow process and I'm still grieving everyday. I know I can't help take your pain away, but I also know that it was and is comforting to me to know that people do care. So, I hope you can find some amount of comfort in knowing that you're not alone in your grief. It breaks my heart every time I hear about another death from this disease. It's very sad! I hope you can remember and appreciate all the good times and positive things in his life. Even though I wish Brian was still alive and well, I am so happy that he doesn't have to suffer anymore! I'm happy that I got to know him as a sober and responsible adult for over 2 yrs, before he relapsed and died. I don't know the details of Matt's life or situation, but I think he was clean and doing well for some time. I'm sure he was struggling in the end, because that's what this disease can do to people. Regardless, his war is over and I hope you can see that as a blessing! My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this horrible time! God Speed!
