Tributes & Condolences

To the Family of John F. Popken Jr., I am a friend of John III, a man whom I feel I can call a Brother, though you all know we are not. I did not know the Husband, Father and Friend that you all had the honor of knowing and loving. But what I do know is the kind of Son that this man raised along with his wife. I love you John, you have been a great friend to me personally and as an aside, I have also enjoyed working with you. What I wanted to share with you was an experience that I had this past Saturday. A hard day for both of our families, but yet a necessary step in our mutual grieving process. The event I was involved in was a rolling motorcycle tribute to two fine folks from our community. This particular memorial ride had well over 400 motorcycles participating in the ride and at least another 100 that were already at the memorial site. Here is a link to a very short video about the event: http://www.kezi.com/news/local/Couple_Killed_in_Car_Accident_Honored_with_Motorcycle_Ride.html I have another video at the end of the actual procession as it passed through the small town of Junction City, OR. During the ride of about an hour, we had an opportunity to reflect on love lost. It was an awesome ride, beautiful scenery on a spectacular day in Eugene Oregon. I thought about your Father and as I was considering his life and achievements I was struck by this thought. The Skinners were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to make an impact on so many who have the ability (nay, obligation) to pay our respects in such a public way. I thought about your Father and all of his overwhelming academic achievements, personal and professional relationships, the myriad of untold stories of people effected by the work of your Father. If all of those were to come out, the families, the generations of people who could celebrate his life, who may not have had that opportunity were it not for something that he alone did, what a celebration that would be !!! We all have a greater effect than we give ourselves credit for. I hope you and your family are comforted by the love shared and the future your family has together. May you all be blessed by the Lord Himself. As promised, here is the link to the full procession, I hope you are able to view it. Enjoy: https://www.facebook.com/JackiStichlerLaurent/videos/10208978175684507/ P.S. And John, I think you are right. Given your Dad's pedigree, you have fallen VERY short my friend. LOL
