Virginia E. (Zolciak) Nagy, 87, of Perrysburg, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Season’s Retirement Community in Cincinnati, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born August 4, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph and Paulina (Lyskawa) Zolciak. Virginia married the love of her life, Frank Nagy on September 25, 1954; they were married for 57 years. Frank preceded her in death on May 30, 2013. Her son, Dr. Paul D. Nagy and infant children, Louis Frank and Mary Frances, also preceded Virginia in death.
Virginia earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Bachelor of Education in Home Economics from the University of Toledo. Her senior year Virginia’s picture was on the cover of the National Home Economics Journal where her article on “Home Economics Career in the Making” was featured. After graduation, she taught at Waite High School for five years and then worked as a clinical dietitian at St. Charles Hospital. After raising her family, she continued her career at Riverside Hospital in the Women, Infants, and Children Program, educating young expectant mothers on the importance of nutrition.
She was an active member of St. Rose Church, volunteering on numerous committees and at one time was the Girl Scout Leader for St. Rose. She was a member of the National Dietetics Association and the Ohio Dietetics Association, of which she was a former President.
Outside of work, you could find Virginia listening to the opera, watching the Detroit Tigers, cross-country skiing, walking in the park and was always up for a challenging game of Bridge. In addition to all her interests, activities, and travels, most important to her was her love for family, friends and the pleasure of knowing no one left her home hungry. On Christmas, she also enjoyed the Polish custom of hiding a Christmas pickle ornament for her family on the tree.
Virginia is survived by her children, Janet M. Nagy; and Dr. Thomas F. (Diane) Nagy; daughter-in-law, Ellen (Paul, dec’d) Nagy; grandchildren, Caroline Page (fiancé Rob Richardson), William “Tripper” Page, Elizabeth Page; Hannah (Ryan) Smith and Simon Nagy; step-grandchildren, Amie (Brad) Haller and Carrie (Rob) Beckman; and seven great-step-grandchildren.
