Robert M. Zwick

Robert M. Zwick
U.S. Army Veteran

Zwick
Robert M “Robe,” age 94, passed away on April 18, 2019, Holy Thursday. Beloved husband of the late Dee (Nee: Knoll) Zwick and father of the late Tom Zwick, he lived on the west side – Delhi and Price Hill all of his life.

A World War II veteran, he served with the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division in France, Germany and Austria. He subsequently joined the Catholic War Veterans. The president of France appointed him a Chevalier (Knight) of the Ordre National de la Légion D’Honneur in 2013 for his service in France.

His education included a BA in Business Administration and a MA in History from Xavier University. His own accounting service kept him busy for over 50 years but by his own admission, teaching was his passion. A beloved teacher for 27 years at Ross Local, Goshen Local and Cincinnati Public Schools, he made such an impression on his students that many of them remained in contact via letters, emails and visits up to his last days. His legacy at Ross extends beyond his own teaching career through his co-founding of the first professional teacher association and his supervision of many student teachers.

Always active in his Catholic parish, he served as a lector and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Interfaith Hospitality Committee and the choir. In his nineties, he was still a popular presenter to his Knights of Columbus Council, St. Joseph of the Three Rivers. His faith was the most important aspect of his life and he was always willing to share the love of God with his family, friends or even strangers.

He is survived by his nephews, John and Michael Zwick , Marc and Anthony Knoll, his cousin Dave Zwick, cherished friends Jack and Linda Langlitz and members of the Brannon and Spahr families among many others.

Robert Zwick will be remembered for his amazing story telling ability, sense of humor and his grateful spirit. He was a “father” to so many that there was a steady stream of visitors during his last years to his riverfront view condo and even to his hospital and nursing home rooms. John Denver’s song “My Sweet Lady” can speak words of comfort to his many “sons” as well as “daughters.”

"Lady, are you crying, do the tears belong to me
Did you think our time together was all gone
Lady, my sweet lady, I’m as close as I can be
And I swear to you our time has just begun."

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at St. William Church from 10:30 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am. Address: 4108 W. 8th Street.

Memorials may be made to the St. William Church St. Vincent De Paul Chapter. Please make checks out to St. Vincent De Paul and mail to St. Vincent De Paul, St. William Church, 4108 W. 8th Street, Cincinnati, OH 45205

Robe was a true inspiration in all ways. His love, compassion and nonjudgmental kindness will always be a model for me. His legacy will live on through all of the people whose lives he changed for the better--me included. Robe, Dee and Tom will remain in our hearts and fond memories. --His God daughter, Terri
